Missionary's annual report

Eastern Baptist Association

June 9, 10 & 11, 1882
Tenth Anniversary

The Missionary elected at your last session of the Association begs leave to make the following report: We commenced our labors on the 17th of June, 1881, and in our travels we have found the people courteous and kind, and anxious to have the gospel preached unto them. They do not want so much of sermonizing, but they want the simple truths of the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which is able to make them wise unto salvation. We have found our task a pleasant one in most of cases. We have often felt the refreshing showers of His grace from the Heavenly Throne, and the people or congregation seemed to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit; and we have wished that a more copious shower of His Divine Love should have been poured out upon the people, so that souls should have been brought to the knowledge of the truth as it is in Jesus. But we hope that our labors will not be in vain in the Lord; and, dear Brethren, pray that the Gospel seed that we have endeavored to sow may be watered from salvation's fountain, and that the rays of the Son of righteousness may shine upon it, that it may bring forth fruit to the honor and glory of God. There were many places that I was requested to visit that I could not, and the cry has been, "Come over and preach for us." I have visited the Churches that did not have regular preaching. I preached in the Pitt River Valley, in Surprise Valley, in Goose Lake Valley, at Alturas, South Fork of Pitt River, at Eagle Creek, Owl Creek, at the Roush Schoolhouse, at Cedarville, at the Metzker Schoolhouse, at Lake City, at the Goose Schoolhouse, at Davis Creek, at Lyndale, at Lake View, and at the First Church of Goose Lake Valley. I have labored in the field 226 days, traveled 2,703 miles, preached 129 sermons, made 213 family visits, attended 2 funerals, performed 1 marriage ceremony. Amount received in full for labors, $320.19. All of which is submitted for your consideration.
