We Learn About God’s People

The art of listening is a learned skill. It requires concentrated attention focused on the speaker. Sometimes we hear spoken words without really listening to what a speaker says. This is especially true in hearing God’s message.
God speaks through His Word, but we hear it only if we read with a listening spirit or tune in when another shares it. We have to focus on what God is saying to us through the Scriptures to hear it.
God speaks through people whom He uses to convey His message to us. The counsel of dedicated Christians helps us listen to God through verbal or written words that guide us.
God also communicates Spirit to spirit. He reveals His will and His way to those who take time to listen.
Teaching children these important Bible principles while their minds are so receptive will help them develop listening skills that will prove invaluable throughout life.

Young children do not usually choose to do God’s will without training and discipline to help them learn to do so. As they do God’s will in daily living at this age, they will more than likely accept and follow God’s will when they are older and making important life choices.
Each child needs to experience choosing God’s way. Use teachable moments during class time to help learners know the happiness of doing what God says to do.
You will pass on to the children whom you teach your faith in God through your example of following God’s will. They need role models of people who listen to God and do what He says. Help them begin to share with others how God is with them to help them choose to do right.
Boys and girls are eager to please the important people in their lives. As you patiently and gently mold their character development, you will guide them toward doing God’s will.
To know God’s will is the beginning point for living a God-centered life. When we focus on God and His activity around us, we deny self to choose God’s perspective for holy and godly living.

Teaching children to be bold in sharing the good news of Jesus’ love cannot start too early. Our world is seething in wickedness, hurts and despair. The hope that Jesus provides is a security that people are desperate to hear.
Sharing one’s faith is a natural response of gratitude for what the Lord has done. Because of the children’s age in your class, they may not realize their need for salvation. Their innocent love for Jesus can be all the more meaningful, however, as their conversation reveals their sincere thankfulness to Him.
Singing is probably the easiest and most effective way for young children to tell of Jesus’ love. They do not have a large vocabulary, but music touches their hearts when words might fail to do so.
To wait until children grow up to begin sharing their faith is such a waste. They can know the certain joy of helping others learn about Jesus NOW. If we wait, they may never learn to tell someone, “Jesus loves you.”

CREATION

QUARTERLY PREVIEW

“Creation” is this quarter’s theme. This study should help students gain a knowledge of God’s creation and show them how they can use this information as an effective witnessing tool. The unique theme presents ways for students to consider how God reveals Himself to mankind and how the amazing features of the universe speak of a divine Creator to whom every human being owes his allegiance.  Lessons in this quarter examine the universe, the earth and man himself.

LESSON OBJECTIVES

The lessons in Unit 1 should help young teens appreciate God’s authority as Creator, discover the result of Adam’s rejecting that authority and discover God’s promise to one day bring into existence a new Heaven and a new earth. The lessons in Unit 2 discuss conditions of the earth prior to the flood, the earth’s environment after the flood and man’s stewardship of the planet.  The lessons in Unit 3 examine the effects of sin on the human body—disease—and include a discussion about taking care of our bodies. In each unit there is a lesson on how to defend these scriptural beliefs. Lesson 13 investigates how denying scriptural truths affects mankind. Lesson 14 discusses why we are here.

WORSHIP GONE WRONG
A Bible Study of False Doctrines

This quarter we will be studying about false doctrines, but we are going to take a different approach. Instead of examining specific groups in our day that are wrong in doctrine and practice, we are going to look at some of the underlying causes and conditions of false doctrine.

Satan’s Lie
Scripture: Genesis 3:1-13
Aim: I will identify the source of all false doctrine.

Idol Worship
Scripture: Exodus 32:15-26
Aim: I will explain how idol worship of any kind turns us away from God.

God and Other Gods
Scripture: 1 Kings 11:1-11
Aim: By the end of the lesson I will explain why the worship of God excludes worship of any other god.

The Pharisees
Scripture: Matthew 23:13-33
Aim: I will discuss the error of the Pharisees.

The Sadducees
Scripture: Matthew 22:23-33
Aim: I will discuss the error of the Sadducees.

Personal Morality
Scripture: Acts 5:1-11
Aim: I will discuss the relationship between doctrinal purity and personal honor.

Jews and Gentiles
Scripture: Acts 15:12-29
Aim: I will identify racial and cultural differences that can divide churches.

How We Worship
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:10-25
Aim: I will compare the importance of unity in worship with the danger of division.

Spiritual Gifts
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:1; 13:1-13
Aim: I will discuss the modern healing and tongues movement.

Law and Grace
Scripture: Galatians 5:1-18
Aim: I will explain the difference between Law and grace concerning salvation.

The Second Coming
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:13—5:8
Aim: I will discuss errors relating to the second coming.

The Universal Church
Scripture: Ephesians 3:10-21
Aim: I will discuss the error and harm of the universal church heresy.

Protestants and Their Children
Scripture: Matthew 16:13-18
Aim: I will explain why Baptists are not Protestants.

The Ecumenical Movement
Scripture: Amos 3:3; 2 Corinthians 6:14—7:1

Warnings of the Weeping Prophet
A Study in Jeremiah; 2 Kings 24; 25; 2 Chronicles 36

QUARTERLY AIM: The learner will heed God’s warnings and compassionately proclaim His message to those under His judgment.

Our study for this quarter focuses on the book and ministry of God’s mighty prophet, Jeremiah. In Warnings of the Weeping Prophet we will study the prophecies of Jeremiah and the chronological sequences recorded in 2 Kings 24 and 25, along with 2 Chronicles 36.  The prophet Jeremiah, like many before him, faced intense persecution by his own people because he bravely proclaimed the unwelcome truth regarding the impending Babylonian captivity. Through the most inhumane treatment and cruelty by his captors, he never stopped loving his people and their land. Jeremiah was a man of deep compassion for God and the people of Judah.

Jeremiah came on the scene about 100 years after Isaiah. He was a priest from Anathoth, a village of the tribe of Benjamin. Jeremiah’s father was Hilkiah (Jer. 1:1). Jeremiah was called by God during the thirteenth year of King Josiah. Early in his ministry he was a contemporary of Zephaniah and Habakkuk. His later ministry overlapped the ministry of Daniel. He prophesied during the reigns of Kings Josiah, Jehoiakim and Zedekiah. Given the choice by Nebuchadnezzar of going to Babylon or staying in Jerusalem with the remnant, Jeremiah chose to stay and minister to God’s people. During the upheaval which followed the fall of Jerusalem, Jeremiah was taken with a group to Egypt where he continued being the spokesman for God. More than likely he died in Egypt.

The book of Jeremiah is not arranged in chronological order. It seems to follow a logical pattern which develops the overall theme of God’s judgment. This sequence reveals messages of God’s judgments on His people Judah then on Gentile nations. Our study will follow fourteen of the signs given by God through Jeremiah to His rebellious people. Each sign helped illustrate God’s message to Judah.
