IDEAS & TIPS
Community Service Pin
"What
can our Bible Club members do to earn the Community Service Pin?"
That is a frequently asked question. The Discovery Bible Clubs Director's
Manual states, "The club member who completes a special community
service project designated by the Director or Club Leader earns the
Community Service pin. The nature of this project is left to the
discretion of the Director." (Section 8.13, page 20). Churches may
come up with their own projects for the fulfillment of this service
requirement. A recommended book with ideas and suggestions that my help
you with your community service projects is 101 Simple Service Projects
Kids Can Do.
Community Service Idea
Your
Bible Club could a have a "Johnny Appleseed Day." "Shine
a variety of apples with stems. Tie ribbons on the stems and tape notes
to the ribbons that remind people that they are the apple of God's eye
(Psalm 17:8). Present your nutritious service projects to a local food
pantry or homeless shelter."
Another idea for "Johnny Appleseed Day"
would be to actually plant an apple tree in someone's yard. The
Discovery Bible Clubs members could give donations over a certain time
period until they had enough money to purchase apple tree(s). Then, the Director
or Pastor could contact a family to see if they would allow the children
to come and plant the tree. Along with the verse from Psalm 17:8, the
children could leave a tract about God's salvation. they would be like
Johnny Appleseed by planting (spreading ) the seeds of God's love.
