Class Overview
Traditional VBS classes – These classes are designed for those who will be teaching a specific age group of children during the VBS time. Pointers will be given for classroom management and having enough things for them to do. Ideas will be shared about teaching each of the daily lessons.
Teaching Techniques – These classes are designed to help with all of the other parts of teaching beside the lesson. Classroom management, attention getters, and quick tips will be learned in these classes. All of these workshop teachers are full time classroom teachers and have learned the hard way what it takes to make a class learn.
Teen & young teen classes- These children are a unique group. You must stay current with where they are and what is in their minds. These classes will help to keep you fresh and on their level.
Nursery – What does it take to keep new moms from being turned off at your church? These classes will help you look at your program and facilities in a new way and be able to implement some helpful ideas.
Skits- using skits during the VBS week is a vital part of the program and can be very effective. Jimmy Fitzgerald will teach your how to make skits come alive.
Games- Karen Rains will introduce the games for this years VBS and will give her ideas to improve them and other suggestions to making game time fun.
Crafts- This part of VBS can be very costly and time consuming. Cindy Clifton will give you ideas to get you planning for the craft part of Boomerang Bonanza.
Snacks – Paulette Taylor will give you a Ausie look into what is possible for 2006 snacks.
Directing – Debra Brown will introduce you to the new stuff for 2006 VBS and talk about what might be helpful as you begin to prepare for your summer events.
Sharing Christ With Children- This topic is always a must and is why we are here. How do you share the Gospel with children? When are they old enough? What do they have to understand? These and other questions will be addressed during this workshop.
Music out of the Box – Lisa Lybrand loves kids. She teaches them every day in Henderson Independent school district and knows how to make the music fun and current to today’s generation.
Traditional VBS Music – Some churches prefer a traditional style of music using the provided cd in the VBS material. This workshop will help you begin to get the music in your mind to prepare for your summer.
Preschool Music – These little ones have different needs when it comes to music. How do you teach a child a song if they can’t read? What kinds of music should you use? Where do you find songs on their level? How do you keep them engaged? These are some of the topics that will be covered in these classes.
Decorating and Banner Making – Jean Pino is “Ms. Creativity”. She is able to take a paper bag and develop it into a masterpiece. This workshop will help you get started to planning the “look” of your VBS.
