Pastor Romeo Jardinel went to be with the Lord

Missionary Pastor Romeo Jardinel, 94 years old, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at about 8:55 PM. While we were singing and praying to God for him, he left.

Three weeks before he died, he slid and fell on the floor. His pelvic bone was fractured. He could hardly stand but lay on his bed since that time.

Pastor Romeo “Romy” G. Jardinel was born on April 6, 1930, in Davao de Oro, Philippines, to parents Tranquilino E. Jardinel and Paz G. Jardinel. He has a younger sister named Ester Jardinel-Rodriguez and they grew up in Kingking, Pantukan. He finished his elementary education at Kingking Central Elementary School and his secondary education at Davao City High School. He went to Manila and pursued a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree at Far Eastern University. After he graduated from college, he worked at different companies until he found a job as an accounting clerk at Caltex’s main office in Davao City. In 1958, He married Digna Doctolero Jardinel. They have five children namely, Cyd Beryl, Herbert, Edwin, Ronald, and Gem.

From March 23 to April 26, 1966, he was among the motorcyclists who joined the First Philippine Tour by Davao Honda Motorcycle Club.  He was also a participant in the 2nd Mariwasa Honda Summer Cavacalde (Honda Boron Legion) with 150 Riders route from Manila-Laoag-Baguio to Manila, April 6-10, 1966. He often shared the gospel with his fellow motorcycle enthusiasts when he had opportunities.

When his uncle Pastor Juan Galicia (Pastor of Independent Baptist Church) passed away, he felt God’s call to the ministry. He answered the call and pastored the Independent Baptist church. He resigned in 1973, decided to take up theology, and studied at the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary in Baguio City. After obtaining his degree in theology, he pastored Immanuel Baptist Church from 1976-1980.

In 1980, he was sent as a missionary of County Avenue Baptist Church and started churches as a missionary from 1980 to the middle of the 90s. He first started his mission in Buhangin Davao with his family but upon the suggestion of Pastor William Rodriguez to lead the mission work in Bunawan, he went there. One day, he visited a friend in Panabo and found responsive contacts there.  From then, he focused his missionary efforts in Panabo with his family and entrusted the Bunawan mission to a worker.   He also led a Christian worker to the faith, Bro. Munez and that resulted in another work being opened in Tibungco. The Lord also used him with his fellow workers to open churches in Ozamis and Negros. All these works became self-supporting churches. Pastor Romeo Jardinel was one of the three key missionaries of CABC who started the Philippine Missionary Baptist Seminary, in Davao, Philippines in 1986. He was conferred with a doctorate degree by County Ave BC under Dr. Paul Magness.

Eventually, he opened his house in Buhangin as a church with the support of his family and Bethel MBC. Even in his old age, he had been involved in opening and supporting new mission works. His first wife died in 1982. After some time, he met his second wife, Angelita Hermosilla Jardinel, and they were married in 1985. Together with his second wife, they have two beautiful children, namely, Danielle Kate and Jeremy Paul.
